Here are some common questions that you may have regarding the CHYK Retreat.

Why should I attend the retreat?

You should attend the retreat if you are interested in spirituality or learning more about

spirituality. You should attend if you want to learn more about Hinduism, India, and/or Shri Kabir’s writings.

How much prior involvement should I have had with Chinmaya Mission before

attending the retreat?

There is no minimum involvement with Chinmaya Mission necessary to attend the

Retreat.

Is lodging/food provided? What if I have an allergy or dietary restriction?

Yes, both are provided. All food will be vegetarian at a minimum, and we will do our

best to accommodate dietary restrictions. Please let the co-ordinators know if you have any restrictions or allergies.

What if there are activities during the retreat that I cannot do?

Please inform one of the coordinators, and we will happily accommodate you.

If I live in the Bay Area, can I just sleep at my own place at night?

No. Part of the retreat experience is being integrated into all activities at all times. The

only exception is for CHYKs who are young parents, who may need to go back and take

care of their children at night. Please email the coordinators (see emails above) if this is

the case with you.

How much does it cost to attend the retreat?

Until January 7th, the early bird pricing for the retreat is $191. This includes food, lodging, and

activities. This is early bird pricing. From Jan 8 to Jan 26, the cost is $241. The last date to register for the retreat is January 26.

When does the retreat start and end?

Retreat check-in begins at 5pm on Friday, February 16. The retreat will conclude at 3pm on Monday, February 19.

Where will the retreat take place?

The retreat will take place at the Chinmaya Sandeepany ashram at 10160 Clayton Rd San Jose, CA.

I am a parent of someone who wants to attend the retreat.

What will my child learn during this retreat?

Your child will learn, through excerpts of Shri Kabir’s writings, self empowerment,

physical and mental strength, and spirituality. He or she will also become part of a community of youth around the world known as Chinmaya Mission Yuva Kendra, or CHYK, and learn more about Hinduism and Chinmaya Mission through this community.

What should he/she bring to the retreat?

After registration ends, you or your child will receive an email containing more details such as what to bring to the retreat, the schedule of the retreat, etc.

Is lodging/food provided? What if my child has an allergy or dietary restriction?

Both will be provided. All food will be vegetarian at a minimum, and we will do our best

to accommodate dietary restrictions. Please let the co-ordinators know about any restrictions or allergies.

What if I cannot reach my child during the retreat?

You will receive the contact information of the main coordinators in case of emergency.

However, during the retreat, we encourage CHYKs not to use cellphones and electronics

so as to more fully focus on their retreat experiences.

If I live in the Bay Area, can my child just come home at night?

No. Part of the retreat experience is to stay with the CHYKs during the day and during

the night at the hotel.

What is the adult supervision at the retreat?

Adult volunteers from the Chinmaya Mission San Jose center, Acharya Vivekji, and the

retreat coordinators will all ensure your child’s safety.

Are the lectures open to the public?

Yes, all lectures by Acharya Vivekji aren’t just restricted to CHYKs; they will be free and open to the public, including younger children and adults of all ages.
